Job Type: Description:- Step Down Nurses are Registered Nurses that specifically work with stable patients that need specialized monitoring and care. Patients on the Step Down unit are acutely ill and require close monitoring however their condition is not critical enough to require admission to the ICU, conversely patients leaving the ICU may need to go to step down for closer monitoring then the med surg/tele floors can provide. Step Down nurses have extensive knowledge of disease and pathology, they are proficient in cardiac monitoring and utilize critical thinking when assessing, monitoring and implementing care plans. Step down nurses prepare the patient for discharge through encouraging therapies, educating and providing emotional support. They report any changes in condition to the physician and work well with an interdisciplinary team.
